Illinois Rural HealthNet
Welcome
Illinois Rural HealthNet (IRHN) is a high-speed, fiber-optic network that links rural Illinois hospitals and clinics with specialists at larger facilities throughout the nation and the world. The IRHN allows healthcare providers to connect to the fiber backbone and exchange vital information over a dedicated healthcare network.
As of September, 2011, five hospitals are connected to the IRHN, with twenty additional locations scheduled for the near term, and another twenty by the end of 2012.
75% of IRHN Funds Have Been Allocated
At this point, 75% of the IRHN funding has been committed. The IRHN can add additional locations to the schedule until all funds have been allocated. If you want your hospital or clinic to be connected, please contact us as soon as possible, so we can include your location.
Funded in part by the Federal Communications Commission, the IRHN was awarded $21 million to implement over 1,000 miles of fiber backbone devoted to hospitals that will be connected at speeds from 100 Megabits/second to 1 Gigabit. This information highway will transmit 64-slice CT scans and digital mammography from and to your location in mere seconds.
